CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University men's soccer program (4-5-7, 3-4-4 GSC) locked up a spot in the postseason with a 3-0 win against the University of Montevallo (5-8-2, 3-7 GSC) Sunday afternoon at Delta Field. 

Junior forward Ryan Thistle added his fifth goal on the season, The Statesmen attack out shot the Falcons 16-8, winning the shot on goal tally 9-4. 

A hectic first five minutes led to Ryan Thistle opening the scoring in the sixth minute. A long throw from Colby Nesbit, flicked on to Santiago Rossi, whose header was saved but Thistle was there to follow up the shot to score his fifth goal of the season. 

Then in the 20th minute Alfie Lally doubled the lead with a free kick goal. His dipping shot ended up perfectly in the top corner for his second free kick goal of the season. 

After a through ball from Montevallo saw their attacker in on goal, keeper Mason Baglio took down the player for a penalty. He would make up for his foul though as he guesses right and saves the penalty to keep the lead at two for the Statesmen. Baglio would earn his fifth shutout, as he's tied for the lead in the GSC in shutouts. 

Then in the 66th minute the Statesmen would seal the win when a corner kick from Veborn Oen finds Santiago Rossi's hip on the back post to make it 3-0. 

A red card would be shown to a Montevallo player in the 89th minute and Delta State would punch their ticket to the GSC Tournament. 

The Statesmen earned the seven seed in the GSC Tournament and will play against the two-seeded Buccaneers from Christian Brothers University in the first round of the GSC Conference tournament next Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m., (CDT).
