Statesmen Season Ends in Extra Time Loss against Christian Brothers

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Delta State University's men's soccer program had their season come to an end in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Christian Brothers University Friday night at Signaigo Field in Memphis.
 
The Statesmen (4-6-7, 3-4-4 GSC) fell behind 1-0 at the sixth minute from an early goal from CBU's Juan Minguez Malona as the Buccaneers would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
 
13 minutes into the second half, the Statesmen would get the equalizing goal as Chad Hudson would fire a cross into a crowded box that would find the right foot of James Lynch to tie it up at 1-1. That was Lynch's third goal of the season.
 
Lynch would also have four shots on goal throughout the match as the Statesmen would have seven shots on goal.  The Statesmen defense would hold strong as they maintained possession only allowing the Buccaneers to have two shots for the rest of regulation, going into extra time tied up at 1-1.
 
In the first extra frame, the Statesmen attack would see three shots on goal saved by the CBU keeper. At the two-and-a-half-minute mark into the first overtime frame, a free kick from Alfie Lally would ring off the upright being inches from the golden goal.
 
In the second extra frame, the Buccaneers would find a golden goal on a Volley to send them to the GSC semifinals with a 2-1 win.
