CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's soccer team (5-4-6, 4-3-5 GSC) tied 1-1 with the Blazers of Valdosta State University ( on senior day Sunday afternoon at Delta Field.
Junior forward
Casey Stalder scored her first goal of the season on her lone shot on goal early in the first half.
At the 11
th minute mark, Stalder took a through ball from Jae' lasha Julien, striking it past the Blazer keeper to take a 1-0 lead.
The Blazers would score the equalizer with just over ten and a half minutes left in the first half as a deflection on a free kick would get past the keeper to tie the game 1-1.
Both senior goal keepers
Bailey Daugherty and
Olivia Griffin each played a half and grabbed two saves.
The Lady Statesmen would make a push for the three points in the second half as the out shot the Blazers 14-4, including five shots on goal in the second half to hold on to earn the one point, finishing the regular season with a 5-4-6 overall record and a 4-3-5 gulf south conference record.
The Lady Statesmen earned the six seed in the Gulf South Conference tournament and will play the three seeded bulldogs from Union University next Sunday, Nov. 10, at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. The match will kick off at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
