Lady Statesmen Kickoff 2024-25 Campaign in the GSC/SIAC Conference Challenge

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team will kick off their 2024-25 season this weekend with two games against Lane College Friday at Mississippi College and their home opener Saturday with LeMoyne-Owen College.
 
Tip-off Friday will be at 1:00 p.m. on the Flo College Network, while Saturday's tip-off will be at 6:30 p.m, on the Flo College Network and the Statesmen Sports Network from Walter Sillers Coliseum.
 
The Lady Statesmen lost a battle with division I South Alabama on Monday night 63-56. Grace Watson, Brilynn Findley and Daniela Gintere all scored double figures as the Lady Statesmen took a 56-55 lead late in the contest.
 
Scouting the Lady Statesmen.
  • Head Coach Tracy Stewart-Lange enters her third season at the helm of the Delta State University Women's Basketball Program. The Lady Statesmen were picked sixth in the Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last season, the Lady Statesmen went 14-15, along with a 12-12 record in the GSC.
  • The Lady Statesmen return five players who played in 25 or more games last season including top rebounder in Grace Watson. Watson averaged 9.0 points per game and grabbed 6.7 rebounds per game in the 2023-24 campaign. Watson scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the exhibition with South Alabama.
  • The Lady Statesmen have brought in three members of the GSC newcomer watchlist. Those members include Olivia Allen, Ashten Martinez and Rafalia Stergaki. Freshman guards Brilynn Findley and Daniela Gintere will look to make an impact in the Lady Statesmen backcourt as they both scored double-digits in the exhibition with South Alabama.
Scouting the Dragons.
  • Lane was picked fourth in the SIAC West Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Dragons finished last season with a 13-14 overall record, going 11-8 in the SIAC. Last Season, the Lady Statesmen got the best of the Dragons in this meeting winning 55-49.
  • The Dragons return seven players who saw action in last season's game with Delta State including their top scorer in Taylor Lattimore. Lattimore scored 10 points and grabbed two rebounds and had two steals in the matchup. Four of the five starters from last year's matchup return as well.
Scouting the Lady Magicians
  • LeMoyne-Owen is selected sixth in the SIAC West Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Magicians finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 13-14 overall record and a 9-12 SIAC mark. The Lady Statesmen took down the Lady Magicians 56-43 in both team's season opener at LeMoyne-Owen.
  • The Lady Magicians went 0-2 in two exhibitions against NAIA opponent Philander Smith and Mississippi Valley State. Against the Devilettes, junior guard Staisha brought energy off the bench, scoring a team high 16 points in 18 minutes of play.
