CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State Baseball hosted the 17th-ranked Southern Arkansas Muleriders Wednesday night for a Valentine's Day midweek game. The Statesmen out-hit the Muleriders 15-12, but timely at-bats proved to be the difference in the 15-9 SAU win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams picked up hits in the first and second innings, but no runs were plated. The Muleriders struck first in the third on an RBI fielder's choice and an RBI single with two outs. Delta State picked up another hit in the bottom of the third. 2-0 Southern Arkansas after three.
- The Muleriders scored five more in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk, a sac fly, a fielder's choice, and a 2 RBI single. Dylan Coleman and Eric Newsom singled in the bottom of the fourth with a walk to Hayden Cooper between the hits to load the bases. Triston Hickman was walked to plate the first DSU run, and then Taylor Woodcock hit into a fielder's choice to score Cooper from third. 7-2 Southern Arkansas after four.
- SAU scored five more runs on two hits and an error in the fifth. Delta State loaded the bases on a Blayke Dendy walk, a Coleman double, and a hit-by-pitch to Cooper, but did not score. 12-2 Southern Arkansas after five.
- The Muleriders fell in order in the top of the sixth. A Wes Warnock single, a Brendan McCauley double, and a Dendy base-on-balls loaded the bases for DSU with two outs. Coleman cleared the bases with a grand slam over the left field wall. 12-6 Southern Arkansas after six.
- Both teams had base runners, including the bases loaded for DSU with two outs, but neither team would score in the seventh. SAU picked up another hit in the eighth. Dendy led off the bottom of the eighth with a single just before Coleman would hit his second homer of the game. Cooper then hit a double, and Hickman drew a walk to put two on base in time for a Warnock RBI single. 12-9 Southern Arkansas after eight.
- Southern Arkansas extended their lead with a three-run home run in the top of the ninth. The Statesmen fell in order in the bottom half of the inning. 15-9 Southern Arkansas final.

The Statesmen are back at home this weekend for a three-game series against Lee University. First pitch for game one on Friday, February 16, at Ferriss Field is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
