Lady Statesmen Fall in Doubleheader

Cleveland, Miss. -- Delta State University softball returned to action for a doubleheader with the Bulldogs of Union. Audrey Rumsey drew the start for the Lady Statesmen. Rumsey pitched three innings with three strikeouts. Calli McConnell hit a double in the second inning to score Bailey Way to give DSU the 1-0 lead. The Green and White added five more runs in the second while forcing Union into two errors. Abbi Cataldo homered in the third inning to extend the DSU lead to 7-0. The Bulldogs then scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Union then scored three more runs in the fifth to tie the game. In the top of the sixth DSU added a run to make it 8-7. In the bottom of the inning Union added five runs in the sixth to make it 12-8. The Green and White would add one more run in the top of the seventh to fall to the Bulldogs 12-9 in game one.

In game two Morgan Grubb drew the start for the Lady Statesmen. DSU scored one run in the first inning, but the Bulldogs answered right back by scoring one run in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, DSU scored four runs to take the 5-1 lead in the game. Union added two runs in the bottom of the third inning to close the DSU lead 5-3. In the fifth, the Green and White scored two more runs to make it 7-3. Union scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4. Union battled back in the bottom of the seventh and defeated DSU with an 8-7 final.
