ROME, Ga. – The Lady Statesmen sweep Shorter in Wednesday's midweek meeting. Delta State picked up 14 hits in game one and scored three runs in the seventh inning of game two to tie the game up before winning in extra innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- MyCala Helms picked up the first hit for DSU in the first and moved to third on a two-out double by Abbi Cataldo. Both runners scored on a single by Kyleigh Wheaton in the next at-bat. Wheaton also came around on a Bailey Way homer to center. Shorter picked up three runs on three hits in the home half of the first. 4-3 Delta State after one.
- Laney Daigrepont singled to left center to start the second, but was out on a fielder's choice that allowed Nevaeh Lopez to reach safely. Lopez stole second and scored on am RBI single by Raegan Stafford. An error allowed the Hawks to score in the second. 5-4 Delta State after two.
- Wheaton recorded another hit for DSU as the Hawks stranded two in the third. Lopez was walked and moved to second after an HBP to Stafford with one out in the fourth. Lopez scored on an RBI double by Sydney Pevey. Two more hits, including a leadoff triple, led to two more Hawk runs in the fourth. Tied 6-6 after four.
- Wheaton doubled to start the DSU half of the fifth and moved to third when Way reached safely on a bunt. A wild pitch allowed Wheaton to score and moved Way to third. Calli McConnell singled to score Way. Marin Beeson ran for McConnell and went to third after successfully stealing second and going to third on an error. Beeson scored when Daigrepont reached first safely on an error. Shorter added a run on a hit and an error. 9-7 Delta State after five.
- Cataldo picked up a single as the Lady Statesmen left a runner on base in the sixth. Shorter added a run on a bases-loaded ground out, leaving two on base. 9-8 Delta State after six.
- McConnell hit a leadoff double in the seventh and scored on an RBI single by Stafford. The Hawks fell in order in the home half of the inning to seal the win for the Lady Statesmen. 10-8 Delta State final.
Game Two
- Sydney Pevey collected the first hit of the game and the Hawks stranded the bases loaded in the top of the first. Abbi Cataldo drew an HBP to start the second and scored on a two-run homer by McConnell. Daigrepont recorded a double just before the end of the inning. Shorter scored three runs on three hits and left two on base in the second. 3-2 Shorter after two.
- Helms was walked in the third and the Hawks fell in order. The Lady Statesmen sent three to the plate in the fourth as Shorter added another run on a sac fly. 4-2 Shorter after four.
- Daigrepont and Stafford picked up a double and single, respectively, but DSU was kept off the scoreboard in the fifth. Shorter also added a hit and left two on in the fifth. Pevey and Wheaton hit a single and a double in the top of the sixth as Shorter added an insurance run on a two-out RBI single. 5-2 Shorter after six.
- McConnell doubled to start the DSU half of the seventh. Alyssa Gover singled and both moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Katelyn Harmon drew a walk with two outs to load the bases and put the tying run at first base. Pevey hit a ball deep to right field and reached second base on an error, which allowed all three runners on base to score and tie the game at five. Shorter left a runner on second in the home half of the seventh. Tied 5-5 after seven.
- Wheaton doubled to lead the eighth and moved to third on a single by McConnell. McConnell stole second. Daigrepont hit a sac fly to center that allowed Wheaton to score from third and an error on the same play allowed McConnell to score. The Hawks fell in order to secure the win and the sweep for the Lady Statesmen. 7-5 Delta State final.
On The Mound
- Game one Audry Rumsey pitched 1.0 inning, allowing four runs (3 ER) on three hits with three walks. She also pitched 1.0 inning of game two, allowing one earned run on one hit with a walk.
- Morgan Grubb pitched 4.0 innings of relief in game one, allowing four runs (3 ER) on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
- Emma Enderud pitched 2.0 innings in game one. She allowed no runs or hits and struck out two. She also pitched 4.0 innings of game two, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
- Yazmin Jackson started game two, pitching 3.0 innings. She allowed three earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
