CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Statesmen fall in game one to the West Alabama Tigers after a competitive night at Ferriss Field. Starter Logan Eldridge threw nine strikeouts over eight innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The  Tigers left a runner on base after stranding a two-out base hit. Clay Cook led the Statesmen half of the first with a homer over the left field wall. 1-0 Delta State after one.
• Each team stranded runners in the second, including a base hit by Hayden Cooper. Both sides stranded one runner in the third. An error and a walk with the bases loaded scored two Tiger runs in the top of the fourth. Cooper picked up another single in the bottom of the fourth. 2-1 West Alabama after four.
• Each side stranded runners in the fifth as Brendan McCauley picked up a hit for DSU. Both teams went in order in the sixth inning. West Alabama sent three to the plate in the seventh as Delta State left Cook on after a two-out single. 2-1 West Alabama after seven.
• The Tigers left another runner on base in the eighth as the Statesmen sent three to the plate. UWA went in order in the ninth. Hayden Cooper singled to put the tying run on base with one out, but the next two Statesmen flew out to end the game. 2-1 West Alabama final.

On The Mound

• Starter Logan Eldridge pitched 8.0 innings, allowing two unearned runs on eight hits. He stuck out nine Tiger batters with two walks.
• Noah Magee pitched the ninth inning for DSU, drawing three ground outs.
