CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Statesmen split Sunday's doubleheader with West Alabama. Delta State picks up their seventh GSC win of 2024 with the game three victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- West Alabama fell in order in the top of the first. Clay Cook was walked, Brendan McCauley singled, and Hayden Cooper was walked to load the bases in time for a two-run single by Brett Burrell. 2-0 Delta State after one.
- Both teams sent three to the plate in the second inning. West Alabama stranded a runner in the third as McCauley and Burrell singled in the third. Both teams stranded a runner in the fourth and went in order in the fifth. 2-0 Delta State after five.
- West Alabama plated a run in the sixth after a bases-loaded groundout. The Statesmen stranded a runner after a one-out walk to Braiden Jones. 2-1 Delta State after six.
- The Tigers tied the game on an RBI single in the seventh as the Statesmen stranded a walk to McCauley. Tied 2-2 after seven.
- A two-RBI single with two outs gave the Tigers the lead in the top of the eighth. Delta State left one on base after a one-out walk to Burrell. 4-2 UWA after eight.
- The Tigers left a runner at third in the ninth after a leadoff single. Delta State put two on with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to score. 4-2 UWA final.
Game Two
- Each side went in order in the first inning. West Alabama scored in the top of the second after a two-out RBI single. Dylan Coleman tied the game back at one with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the second. Tied 1-1 after two.
- The Tigers led the third with a single but stranded the runner after two strikeouts and a foul out. Matthew Nichols walked to start the bottom of the third and advanced to third on a single by Wes Warnock. Burrell scored Nichols from third on a sac fly to right. 2-1 Delta State after three.
- West Alabama tied the game in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI single. DSU regained the lead after Dylan Dendy singled and later scored on an RBI single by Nichols. 3-2 Delta State after four.
- UWA went in order as the Statesmen left Burrell on base after a single in the fifth. Cole Thompson was the only base runner for either team in the sixth after he hit a two-out single. UWA had two on base in the seventh, but a strikeout form Josh Hill ended the scoring threat and the game. 3-2 Delta State final.
On The Mound
- Game one starter Drake Fontenot pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
- Christian Clayson faced three batters in game one, allowing two runs.
- Noah Magee pitched the final 2.0 innings of game one without allowing a run or a hit. He also recorded a strikeout.
- Game two starter Logan Cromer pitched 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts to one walk.
- Josh Hill picked up the save in game two, allowing no runs and one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.
