Statesmen Drop Doubleheader at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Statesmen concluded the series at Lee with a Saturday doubleheader. The Flames won both games to win the series after Lee won the series opener on Friday as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
  • The Flames scored 17 runs on 17 hits in game one, including six runs in the first inning and seven in the second. The two Statesmen runs came on a two-run homer by Triston Hickman in the top of the fifth after Dylan Dendy reached on a leadoff single to start the inning.
Game Two
  • The Statesmen left two on base in the top of the second after an HBP to Brett Burrell and a single by Dylan Coleman. The Flames went in order in the bottom of the first. DSU sent three to the plate in the second as the Flames left one on after a two-out walk. Both sides were on the scoreboard after solo home runs in the third inning, including one by Statesmen Wes Warnock. Tied 1-1 after three.
  • Delta State fell in order in the top of the fourth; Lee scored four runs on four hits, including a three-run home run. 5-1 Lee after four.
  • Taylor Woodcock was left on base after a one-out single in the top of the fifth. A sac fly scored another run for the Flames in the home half of the fifth. 6-1 Lee after five.
  • Hayden Cooper hit an RBI double with two on in the top of the sixth, followed by a two-RBI single by Dylan Dendy in the next at-bat. Woodcock hit into a double play with no outs and the bases loaded, but a run was scored on the play. The Flames fell in order in the bottom of the sixth. 6-5 Lee after six.
  • Warnock and Cooper singled in the top of the seventh before a wild pitch moved the pair into scoring position with two outs. Dendy was intentionally walked to load the bases, but a groundout in the last at-bat would end the inning and the game. 6-5 Lee final.
On The Mound
  • Game one starter Drake Fontenot faced ten batters, allowing six runs on six hits with two  strikeouts and two walks.
  • Jackson Wilson faced six batters in game one, allowing five runs on three hits with two walks.
  • Cade Whitley pitched 1.1 innings in game one, allowing four runs on four hits with one walk.
  • Brady Davis pitched 3.1 innings in game one, allowing two runs on four hits with two Ks and two walks.
  • Braiden Jones faced one batter in game one and drew a flyout.
  • Game two starter Logan Cromer pitched 3.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
  • Noah Magee pitched the final 2.2 innings of game two, allowing one run on one hit with three Ks and a walk. 
UP NEXT
The Statesmen are back at home this Tuesday for the last midweek game of the season. First pitch against Henderson State this Tuesday, April 23 is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
