Lady Statesmen Fall In Doubleheader at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lady Statesmen started a new GSC series at Lee on Saturday with a doubleheader. Delta State recorded 15 hits between the two games as the Green & White pitchers combined for ten total strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
  • MyCala Helms drew a one-out walk in the first and moved to second after Calli McConnell was hit by a pitch. Helms scored on a two-out RBI single by Kyleigh Wheaton. The Flames left one runner on base in the home half of the first. 1-0 Delta State after one.
  • Each team stranded a runner in the second and third innings; Sydney Pevey picked up a DSU single in the top of the third. The Lady Statesmen sent three to the plate in the fourth, but the Flames scored five runs on five hits in their half of the frame. 5-1 Lee after four.
  • Raegan Stafford and Abbi Cataldo recorded hits in the DSU half of the fifth inning. Lee added a run on a hit and an error. 6-1 Lee after five.
  • McConnell added another hit in the top of the sixth; the Flames scored another run on a two out hit in the bottom of the sixth. 7-1 Lee after six.
  • Nevaeh Lopez and Stafford reached base after an HBP and a walk in the top of the seventh and scored on a home run by Cataldo. Pevey also singled in the inning, but DSU could not plate any more runs. 7-4 Lee final.
Game Two
  • The Flames won game two 14-5 in five innings with 12 hits for the Flames. Delta State recorded eight hits with two from Wheaton and hits by Cataldo, Helms, Pevey, McConnell, Stafford and a home run by Laney Daigrepont.
ON THE MOUND
  • Game one starter Emma Enderud pitched 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk. She also pitched 1.0 inning in game two, allowing five runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
  • Yazmin Jackson pitched 2.1 innings of game one, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks. She also started game two, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
  • Morgan Grubb faced six batters in game two and allowed six runs on four hits with two walks.
