CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen split their final midweek doubleheader of 2024 against a talented Harding Bisons team. The Lady Statesmen plated fourteen runs in their game one win as
MyCala Helms blasted two home runs in the game, followed by an
Abbi Cataldo grand slam to seal the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- Harding plated the first two runs of the game in the top of the first with no hits and a DSU error. MyCala Helms drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a double by Sydney Pevey. A passed ball allowed Helms to score and moved Pevey to third. Kyleigh Wheaton reached on a two-out error that also allowed Pevey to score. Laney Daigrepont then singled, moving Wheaton to second just before an Emma Collier RBI single. 3-2 Delta State after one.
- Harding's lone baserunner in the second was caught stealing second to end the frame. Raegan Stafford singled to start the home half of the inning and scored when Helms homered to right center. 5-2 Delta State after two.
- The Bisons recorded a hit, but the runner was caught stealing in the third. DSU plated four runs in the bottom of the third, including a three-run homer by Helms that scored Stafford and Abbi Cataldo. 9-2 Delta State after three.
- Harding sent just three to the plate in the fourth; the Lady Statesmen left two on base after a walk to Calli McConnell and an error allowed Wheaton to reach. The Bisons stranded the bases loaded in the fifth after three hits in the inning. Stafford singled to start the home fifth and moved to third with two outs. She scored on a play in which Pevey reached on an error. 10-3 Delta State after five.
- A leadoff double by Harding was left on base in the top of the sixth. Cataldo hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the run-rule and seal the Lady Statesmen win. 14-3 Delta State final.
Game Two
- Harding scored four runs in the top of the first on three hits and left two on base in the inning. Pevey was the only DSU baserunner in the first after reaching on an error. 4-0 Harding after one.
- The Bisons scored another run in the second on one hit and an HBP. DSU recorded one hit and stranded the bases loaded in the frame. 5-0 Harding after two.
- Harding plated four more runs in the third on four hits. McConnell was the Delta State baserunner in the third after a two-out walk.
- Harding loaded the bases again in the fourth, but only plated one run on one hit. Collier reached on an error. Her baserunner, Mattie Granberry, scored on an RBI double by Stafford with two outs. 10-1 Harding after four.
- Each side left a runner on base in the fifth, with Helms recording the only hit in the inning. 10-1 Harding final.
ON THE MOUND
- Game one starter Emma Enderud pitched all 6.0 innings of the game, allowing three runs on just six hits with four Ks and three walks. She also pitched 2.0 innings in game two, allowing five runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks.
- Yazmin Jackson started game two and faced eight batters. She allowed four runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks.
- Audry Rumsey pitched 2.1 innings in game two, allowing one run and two hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
