CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen began their final GSC series of the 2024 season Friday night as they hosted the Mississippi College Choctaws. Delta State held serve with the tenth-ranked Choctaws through four innings, but Mississippi College made the most of their late chances as they secured the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws scored the first two runs in the top of the first on two hits and an error. The Lady Statesmen sent three to the plate in the frame. 2-0 MC after one.
- MC left one on base in the top of the second; Delta State left two on after a two-out single by Laney Daigrepont, followed by an Emma Collier base on balls. The Choctaws scored their third run off a solo home run in the top of the third. Raegan Stafford singled to start the home half of the third and stole second in time to be brought home on an RBI single by MyCala Helms. Sydney Pevey was hit by a pitch, moving Helms to second. Calli McConnell then doubled to left center to score Helms and move Pevey to third. Kyleigh Wheaton sent a sac fly to center in the next AB to score Pevey. Tied 3-3 after three.
- MC's fourth run was scored on a two-out RBI double in the top of the fourth. Nevaeh Lopez singled with one out in the DSU fourth and moved to second when Stafford reached on an error. Abbi Cataldo then doubled to right to score Lopez and tie the game. Tied 4-4 after four.
- A hit and an error led to the Choctaws scoring another run to regain the lead in the top of the fifth. Daigrepont picked up another hit in the bottom of the frame. Two more hits and error added a sixth MC run in the top of the sixth. The Lady Statesmen went in order in their half of the sixth. 6-4 MC after six.
- The Choctaws extended their lead again in the top of the seventh on a two-RBI double. Helms drew a walk to lead the bottom of the seventh and moved to second on a groundout. Wheaton singled to put runners on the corners with two outs. Daigrepont then scored Helms from third on an RBI single, but a strikeout would strand two Lady Statesmen on base. 8-5 MC final.
ON THE MOUND
- Emma Enderud pitched a complete 7.0 inning game for the Lady Statesmen, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eleven hits. She struck out one batter, walked two, and hit two.

The Lady Statesmen wrap up the regular season the regular season with a doubleheader tomorrow against the Choctaws. First pitch for game one on Saturday, April 27 is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
