CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State completed the sweep of Mississippi College after Saturday's doubleheader. The Statesmen earned the three-seed for the GSC Tournament after the weekend and will play six-seed West Florida in the first round on May 3.
The Statesmen honored seven seniors and the 20th anniversary of the 2004 National Championship team before the two games. Hammer Franks, Jonathan Dewberry, Hayden Cooper, Eric Newsom, Cade Whitley, Blayke Dendy, and Duke Jordan received much praise from a packed Harvey Stadium before game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- The Choctaws left two on base with no hits in the top of the first. Brendan McCauley singled and scored on a Cooper double in the home half of the first. 1-0 Delta State after one.
- MC recorded a hit, but a double play left no baserunners in the second. Blayke Dendy extended the DSU lead with an opposite-field solo homer. 2-0 Delta State after two.
- The Choctaws took the lead in the third inning off three hits and an error. The Statesmen went in order in the bottom of the third. 3-2 MC after three.
- MC fell in order in the top of the fourth; Clay Cook and Taylor Woodcock were left on base after and single and an error, respectively. The Choctaws sent just three to the plate as the Statesmen stranded the bases loaded in the fifth. MC again went in order in the top of the sixth; Woodcock picked up another hit in the inning. Cooper was the only baserunner for either team in the seventh after drawing a walk. 3-2 MC after seven.
- The Choctaws left on on base after a hit in the top of the eighth. Blayke Dendy singled and moved to second on a bunt by Cook to start the bottom of the eighth. Woodcock reached on an error that allowed Dendy to move to third. Brett Burrell drew a walk to load the bases. Delta State regained the lead on a two-RBI double that scored Dendy and Woodcock. McCauley also hit a sac fly to center to score Burrell from third. MC put two on base in the top of the ninth, but a ground out ended the scoring threat and the game. 5-3 Delta State final.
Game Two
- MC had the only baserunner in the first inning after a two-out single. The Choctaws recorded another hit in the top of the second. Cooper singled to start the bottom of the second and was relieved on the bases by fellow senior Jonathan Dewberry. Blayke Dendy singled to move Dewberry to third. Woodcock singled to plate Dewberry and move Dendy to third. Triston Hickman doubled to score Dendy and Woodcock. Wes Warnock also singled to score Hickman from second. 4-0 Delta State after two.
- Each side left one on base in the third with Dylan Coleman hitting a single for the Statesmen. A sac fly plated a Choctaw run in the top of the fourth as the Statesmen went in order in their half of the frame. 4-1 Delta State after four.
- MC left two on after two hits in the top of the fifth. Dylan Coleman extended the DSU lead in the bottom of the fifth after a two-run homer that also plated Warnock, who reached on a leadoff single. After that, Dewberry singled and scored by reaching home plate before the completion of an inning-ending double play. 7-1 Delta State after five.
- The Choctaws went in order in the top of the sixth. Matthew Martinolich and Hickman doubled to start the bottom of the sixth. Warnock and McCauley then hit RBI singles to add two more runs to the DSU advantage. MC added a run after two hits in the top of the seventh, but the Statesmen held on to the lead and completed the sweep. 9-2 Delta State final.
On The Mound
- Game one starter Logan Eldridge pitched 8.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
- Josh Hill picked up a save in game one, pitching the ninth inning without allowing a run and just one hit.
- Game two starter Logan Cromer pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts to one walk.
- Duke Jordan faced one batter in game two and struck the batter out.
- Hammer Franks pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
- Cade Whitley faced one batter in game two and forced a groundout.

The Statesmen begin GSC Tournament play on Friday, May 3, at 10:00 am against West Florida. The tournament is held at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama.
