HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both sides went in order in the first inning as DSU starter Logan Eldridge drew three groundouts to Taylor Woodcock at shortstop. The Argos left one on base in the second after a two-out walk. Hayden Cooper and Blayke Dendy picked up the first hits of the game in the bottom of the second. West Florida loaded the bases with one out and plated a run on an HBP. A groundball double play to Woodcock ended the inning and the scoring threat. The Statesmen sent just three to the plate in the home half of the third. 1-0 West Florida after three.
  • UWF put two on with one out in the top of the fourth, but another double play turned by Woodcock, Brendan McCauley, and Dylan Dendy ended the inning. Dylan Coleman picked up a DSU hit in the bottom of the fourth. West Florida left one on base in the fifth after a two-out HBP. Woodcock drew a two-out walk and was the only DSU baserunner in the bottom of the fifth. West Florida loaded the bases again in the top of the sixth and plated a run on a walk. Brett Burrell reached base on a one-out error and moved to third on a double by Coleman. A pitch hit Cooper in on the hands to load the bases with one out. Blayke Dendy reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Burrell to score and putting runners at the corners with two outs. A foul pop-up to first ended the inning. 2-1 West Florida after six.
  • West Florida extended the lead with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh. Wes Warnock doubled but was left on base in the bottom of the seventh. 3-1 West Florida after seven.
  • The Argos left two on base and picked up a hit in the eighth inning. Burrell doubled down the left field line to start the Statesmen half of the eighth. Coleman also doubled down the left field line to trade places with Burrell. Cooper hit an infield single to the UWF third baseman, and Blayke Dendy drew a full-count walk to load the bases with no outs. Dylan Dendy was hit by a pitch on a 2-2 count to tie the game at three. A fielder's choice home, a strikeout, and a flyout kept the game tied at the end of the frame. Tied 3-3 after eight.
  • The Argos regained the lead in the top of the ninth after a leadoff double came around to score on an RBI single. UWF stranded two and saw a runner tagged out at home for the first out of the frame. McCauley started the bottom of the ninth with a single through the left side of the infield. He moved to second on a sac bunt by Burrell, but a groundout and a flyout ended the threat and the game. 4-3 West Florida final.
