HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wes Warnock and Brett Burrell drew walks to start the Statesmen half of the first but stranded the runners after a strikeout, a groundout, and a flyout. The Eagles saw a leadoff single advance to third and score on a ground ball double play. 1-0 ERAU after one.
  • The Statesmen and Eagles went in order in the top of the second as DSU starter Logan Eldridge fanned two in the inning. The Statesmen fell in order again in the third as the Eagles plated two more runs off two hits and a walk. 3-0 ERAU after three.
  • Dylan Coleman and Blayke Dendy recorded the first DSU hits in the top of the fourth but were left on base to end the frame. The Eagles fell in order in the bottom of the fourth. Delta State sent just three to the plate in the fifth. The Eagles pushed across another run in the bottom of the fifth after moving a leadoff double over on a bunt and scoring him on a sac fly. 4-0 ERAU after five.
  • Coleman picked up his second hit of the game as the Eagles also stranded a runner in the sixth. Each side went in order in the seventh inning. Wes Warnock singled with one out and moved to third on a double by Burrell, but two strikeouts after an Embry-Riddle pitching change eliminated the threat. The Eagles left two on base with one hit in the bottom of the eighth. 4-0 ERAU after eight.
  • Eric Newsom drew a one-out walk in the top of the ninth and came out for pinch-runner Cole Thompson. Brendan McCauley reached on an error and moved to second on the play as Thompson advanced to third. Taylor Woodcock grounded out for the second out but was able to score Thompson. Matthew Nichols singled up the middle to score McCauley. Warnock hit a hard grounder down on the right side of the infield, but the Eagle first baseman came up with the ball and stepped on the bag for the final out. 4-2 ERAU final.
