CLEVELAND, Miss. - A stunner from Jae'lasha Julien and a penalty from Ava Webster led the Delta State University Lady Statesmen soccer team to a 2-2 tie with Union University after going down 2-0 early in the second half.
After several chances early from both teams, Union took the lead with a goal in the 15th minute by Sophie Walsh. They doubled the lead in the 46th minute with Lucia Revuelta's goal.
Then in the 62nd minute Julien received the ball on the left side of the field, cut in and curled a shot into the top of the net to bring the Lady Statesmen back into the game. Soon after, in the 67th minute, a foul in Union's box resulted in a penalty. Webster stepped up and fired it in to tie the game at 2-2.
Both teams were deadlocked after that point as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Lady Statesmen (1-2-3, 0-1-2 GSC) are back at home Friday (Oct. 4) at 3:00 PM CDT as they host Mississippi College at Delta Field.
