ROLLA, Mo. – The Delta State University Women's Soccer team got two second-half goals from senior
Chloe Jackson and freshman
Yalitza Zepeda to grab a 2-1 victory on the road in Missouri S&T (0-2) this afternoon.
The win marks Head Coach Chloe Kane's first win at the helm of the Lady Statesmen program. Senior goalkeeper
Bailey Daugherty got her 16
th career win putting her one win away from tying the school's all-time record held by
Amanda Hilliard from the 2018-21 seasons.
After trailing 1-0 at the half, the Lady Statesmen were on the attack early. With 40:11 left in regulation, Jackson would score the equalizing goal on a header off of a corner kick coming from
Casey Stalder.
Within ten seconds after subbing into the game with 17:00 minutes left in regulation, Zepeda would score her first collegiate goal as
Jae'lasha Julien took a throw in from
Emily Evans and crossed it in to the right foot of Zepeda as she put it in the lower left end of the goal to give the Lady Statesmen a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Statesmen out shot the Miners 8-4 in the second half. Delta State had nine shots on goal for the whole game.
The Lady Statesmen (1-1) travel to Jackson this week to take on Belhaven Wednesday (Sept. 11) evening at 6:00 p.m. (CDT).
