CLEVELAND, Miss – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (6-8, 2-6 GSC) will travel to Tennessee for a two-game road trip today and Saturday against Trevecca Nazarene University and Lee University.
The Statesmen will face the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene this evening at 7:30 p.m. (CDT). Following that, Delta State will travel to Cleveland, Tenn., to take on the Flames of Lee University Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (CDT).
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will be on the call on the Statesmen Sports Network while Trevecca Nazarene and Lee will provide the streaming broadcast on the Flo College Network.
Scouting the Statesmen
- Delta State looks to end a four-game losing streak as they currently have a 6-8 overall record and a 2-6 record in GSC play.
- Despite the 2-6 GSC record, senior point guard Chris Terrell has been on a roll for the green and white. The Horn Lake native leads all scorers on the team and in the GSC averaging 22.7 points per game. Terrell's 54 steals leads the nation as he creates havoc on the defensive side of the ball.
- Along with Terrell is senior guard Keithean Brooks. The preseason All-GSC guard averages 19.4 points per game shooting 43.5 % from the field. Brooks averaged 23.5 points per game in the two games last week against West Florida and Valdosta State.
Scouting the Trojans
- TNU enters this weekend with a 9-4 overall record and a 4-3 record in conference play. The Trojans enter this weekend on a two-game winning streak with wins over West Florida and Lee.
- The Statesmen defense will see the second highest scorer in the conference in senior guard Jalen Page. Page averages 22.2 points per game while grabbing 5.7 rebounds per game. Against Lee, Page had 24 points and five assists in the win.
- Along with Page is senior guard Jikari Johnson. The Durham, N.C., native is the second highest scorer on the team as he averages 17.8 points per game and leads the team with 17 steals this season. Johnson also exceeded the 20-point mark in the win over Lee as he scored 23 points.
Scouting the Flames
- The Flames enter this weekend with a 4-7 overall record and are winless in conference play after starting 4-0 this season along with being selected second in the GSC preseason poll.
- The Flames top scorer Giancarlo Valdez did not play in last Saturday's contest against Trevecca Nazarene. Valdez averages 13.1 points per game in nine games played for the Flames this season.
- Two Flames Marlon Smith, and Noah Boler-Kyle are averaging double digits for Lee in their start to the season. Smith averages 11.9 points per game while Boler-Kyle holds down the front court averaging 11.3 points per game and is pulling down 5.2 rebounds per game.
