CLEVELAND, Miss – The Delta State University Women's Basketball Team (8-6, 4-4 GSC) will hit the road to Tennessee for a two-game road stretch this evening and Saturday afternoon.
Delta State will start the road-stretch in Nashville as they will take on the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University this afternoon at 5:30 p.m., (CDT). Following the clash in Nashville, the Lady Statesmen will head to Cleveland, Tenn., to take on the Flames of Lee on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., (CDT).
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will be on the call on the Statesmen Sports Network while Trevecca Nazarene and Lee will provide the streaming broadcast on the Flo College Network.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
- Delta State enters this weekend with a 8-6 overall record and a 4-4 record in Gulf South Conference Play. The Lady Statesmen are looking to snap a three-game losing streak after losing games to Alabama Huntsville, West Florida and Valdosta State.
- In the Lady Statesmen front court, senior forward Grace Watson leads all Delta State scorers averaging 10.4 points per game and grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game. Watson has emerged as one of the top shot blockers in the GSC as she is third in the conference averaging 1.3 blocks per game.
- Last weekend, Delta State's backcourt was led by senior point guard MaKenzie Hill and senior guard Wakiryah Daniels. Daniels started the weekend scoring her season high 18 points against West Florida Thursday night. Hill finished the weekend with a three-pointer at the buzzer of regulation to send their matchup against Valdosta State to overtime.
Scouting the Trojans
- Trevecca Nazarene is off to a slow start in their inaugural season in the Gulf South as they're currently 4-9 and 1-6 in Gulf South Conference play. The Trojans kicked off the new year with a 65-47 loss on the road against Lee last Saturday in Cleveland, Tenn.
- Sophomore guard Amaya Thomas leads all scorers for the purple and white as she averages 10.7 points per game while shooting 43.3% from the field. Thomas scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds against Lee last Saturday.
- Junior forward Cheyenne Trotter holds down the fort in the front court for the Trojans. The Springfield, Illinois native leads the team averaging 7.7 rebounds per game. Against Lee, Trotter had six points, eight rebounds and a block.
Scouting the Flames
- Lee is off to a 10-3 start to the season and holds a 4-3 record in GSC play. The Flames started 2025 off strong with a 65-47 win in Cleveland over Trevecca Nazarene last Saturday.
- The Flames are led by one of the top scorers in the GSC in graduate guard Mallory Hampton. Hampton is the second-best scorer in the GSC averaging 17.2 points per game this season. Hampton added 19 points, four rebounds and five assists against Lee last Saturday.
- Against Lee, senior guard Haylee Johnson added 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out two assists. Lee is the Flames second scoring option as she is scoring 9.8 points per game.
