HUNTSVILLE, ALA. - The Delta State University women's soccer team continued its strong run of form with a hard-fought
1-0 victory over UAH on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. The Lady Statesmen controlled possession throughout and used a first-half goal from
Millie Congerton to secure the Gulf South Conference road win.
Delta State (4-4-4, 3-2-3 GSC) struck early in the 27th minute when Congerton capitalized on a precise assist from
Casey Stalder, firing home what proved to be the
game-winning goal—her fourth of the season. The connection came off a sustained period of pressure that saw the Lady Statesmen earn multiple corner kicks before finally breaking through.
From there, the Delta State defense took over. The back line, anchored by
Ava Steven,
Ava Webster, and
Mackenzie Winters, limited UAH to just six total shots and four on goal.
Goalkeeper Piper Burgess was outstanding between the posts, recording
four saves to notch her fourth
shutout of the season.
Offensively, Delta State maintained its edge, out shooting the Chargers
11–6 and putting
seven shots on target. Congerton led the way with four shots, while
Chloe Colquhoun and
Avery Allison each tested the UAH keeper multiple times.
Delta State returns home next weekend to face the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene on Friday at 1:00 p.m., from Delta Field.
