CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State women's soccer continued its late-season surge with a 2–1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Friday afternoon at Delta Field. The win improved the Lady Statesmen to
5-4-4 overall and 4-2-3 in GSC play.
Delta State wasted no time setting the tone, striking first in the 14th minute when pressure inside the box forced an own goal by the Trojans to make it 1–0. The Lady Statesmen dominated possession through the opening half, generating six shots and three corner kicks while holding Trevecca without a score.
After the break, Delta State doubled its lead when
Millie Congerton found the back of the net in the 58th minute off a sharp assist from
Mariela Dolan. Congerton's fifth goal of the season proved to be the difference, as the Trojans managed just one late strike to cut the deficit.
Goalkeeper
Piper Burgess anchored the DSU defense, recording a key save and controlling the box as the back line of
Ava Steven, Ava Webster, Kennedi Banar, and Evie Shepherd limited Trevecca to only three total shots in the match.
The Lady Statesmen finished with a commanding
20–3 shot advantage and
10–1 edge in corner kicks, showcasing their control from start to finish.
Delta State returns to action Sunday at home for Senior Day against Lee University, at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) from Delta Field.
