VALDOSTA, Ga. — The Delta State University women's soccer team closed out the regular season in thrilling fashion Friday night, rallying for a
2–1 road victory over Valdosta State at the VSU Soccer Complex — a result that
clinched the Lady Statesmen a berth in the GSC Postseason Tournament.
After falling behind in the 29th minute, the Lady Statesmen showed their trademark grit and composure.
Avery Hooker ignited the comeback in the 54th minute, finding the back of the net to even the match at 1–1. Just six minutes later,
Chloe Colquhoun delivered the decisive blow, finishing off a setup from Hooker to put Delta State in front for good.
Delta State's attack stayed active throughout the night, outshooting the Blazers
12–5 and earning
six corner kicks. Hooker led all players with three shots on goal, while Colquhoun added two.
In goal,
Piper Burgess anchored the defense with two key saves, both coming in the second half to preserve the win. Defenders
Ava Steven,
Ava Webster, and
Angelina Mitchell each went the full 90 minutes, helping limit Valdosta State's chances and secure the three points.
The victory pushes Delta State's record to
6-5-4 overall and 5-3-3 in GSC play, as they will finish the regular season on Sunday in Montgomery, Ala., as they face the Warhawks from Auburn University-Montgomery at 1:00 p.m. CT.
