Statesmen Hit the Road for Adjusted Conference Slate with UM and AUM

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (4-3, 1-1 GSC) will travel to Alabama for two conference games this weekend.

On Thursday, the Statesmen will play at the Montevallo Falcons (4-3, 1-1 GSC), tip-off being at approximately 7:30 PM. On Sunday, the Statesmen will arrive in Montgomery to play the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks (2-6, 0-2 GSC) at 4:00 PM.

The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network and both games will be streamed on the FloCollege network.
 
Scouting the Statesmen:
  • Delta State will look to continue momentum with a 4-3 overall record and a 1-1 record in conference play after defeating Christian Brothers
  • Three Statesmen Bryce Clayton, Dacory Porter, and Je'Marion Westbrook average over 10 PPG. Westbrook is leading the Statesmen in scoring averaging 12.9 points per game and is pulling down six boards a game. Last Thursday, Westbrook had a Statesmen career best 24 points and eight rebounds. Porter also added his Statesmen career best with 23 points against Union last Thursday.  
  • Freshman Elisha Puckett leads the Statesmen in rebounds, averaging 6.6 per game. The Centerville, Tenn., native also has one of the top field goal percentages on the team with a 44.2 field goal percentage this season.
  • Bryce Clayton and Sam Whitmer lead the Statesmen in 3PT made, with 18 each. The junior duo knocked down a combined nine three pointers in last weekends contests.
Scouting the Falcons:
  • The Falcons had a 1-1 conference opening weekend on the road falling the Lee 75-51 but following it up with a 90-60 win at Trevecca Nazarene.
  • Derek Moore leads the Falcons in points and rebounds, averaging 18.7 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Last weekend, Moore averaged a double-double in both games against Lee and Trevecca as he averaged 17 points per game and pulled down 10.5 rebounds per game
  • Preseason All-GSC guard Brandon Fussell leads the Falcons averaging six assists per game this season. Last time out, Fussell had 20 points, six rebounds and six assists in UM's 90-60 win in Nashville.  
Scouting the Warhawks:
  • AUM has entered this weekend with a 2-6 overall record and an 0-2 record in conference play.  The Warhawks have been outscored by an average of 2.5 points per game.
  • Junior forward Chappelle Whitney and Junior guard Marius Canery have been the top two scorers for AUM. Whitney is the leading scorer averaging 13.5 points per game Canery is averaging 12.5 per game. Whitney led the way for AUM against Trevecca as he scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds.
  • Colby Williams is averaging 7 rebounds per game along with 10.3 points per game.
