Statesmen Set for Two-Game Road Trip to Valdosta and Pensacola

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (12-11, 8-9 GSC) will travel outside of the state for the final time in the 2024-25 regular season as they head to Valdosta, Ga., and Pensacola, Fla.
 
The Statesmen will face off against the no.6 ranked Blazers from Valdosta State University 7:00 p.m., (CDT) tonight. Following that, Delta State will head to Pensacola to take on the Argonauts from the University of West Florida Saturday at approximately 4:00 p.m., (CDT).
 
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network. The games will be streamed live on the FloCollege network.
 
Scouting the Statesmen
  • Delta State enters this weekend winners in five of the last six games with a 12-11 overall record and an 8-9 record in GSC play. Last weekend, DSU split their two-game home stretch with an 80-74 loss to no. 4 ranked Alabama Huntsville and a 72-63 win over West Alabama.
  • Keithean Brooks had a remarkable week for the green and white last week. The Walls native averaged 25.5 points per game in the two-game home stretch for DSU. Against West Alabama, Brooks posted his third 30-plus point performance of the season scoring 31 points, grabbing five rebounds and having a team-high four steals.
  • Delta State so far this season is led on the offensive end by senior point guard Chris Terrell. The Horn Lake native has scored 20 or more points in four straight games for the Statesmen. Leading all scorers averaging 21.2 points per game, Terrell also leads the nation with 85 steals this season.
Scouting the Blazers.
  • Valdosta State enters this weekend ranked no. 6 in the nation with an 19-3 overall record and are 14-2 in GSC play. The Blazers went 2-0 in their two-game road trip to Tennessee last week defeating Lee 75-64 and Trevecca 96-84.
  • The Blazers are led by senior guard Carlos Hart. The Miami native averages 17.8 points per game while pulling down 6.7 rebounds per game for a Blazer offense that scores 93.4 points per game. Against DSU in early January, Hart scored 23 points while shooting 50% from the field.
  • Along with Hart, the Blazers have got production from senior guard Braxton Williams. Williams had a double-double performance against DSU early January in Sillers Coliseum.
Scouting the Argonauts
  • West Florida is entering this weekend with a 6-16 overall record and a 5-11 record in GSC play. The Argonauts are 1-4 in their past five games with their win coming at Lee last Saturday 84-71.
  • Shay Davis leads all scorers averaging 14.0 points per game. The Orlando, Fla., native averaged 16 points per game last weekend with a 15-point performance shooting 3-5 from beyond the arch in the win at Lee last Saturday.
  • The second-best scorer on the Argonauts is junior Elijah Wyche. Wyche averages 11.4 points per game while grabbing 4.9 rebounds per game. Wyche led all scorers the last time against Delta State in early January.
