Hill Becomes All-Time Leader in Career Saves as DSU Clinch Series Sweep Against Lee

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (7-3, 3-0 GSC) complete the three-game sweep defeating the Flames from Lee University 8-5 Saturday afternoon in Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.
 
Senior right-hander Josh Hill became Delta State's all-time leader in career saves, collecting his 15th career save going 1.1 innings pitched with a strikeout.
 
The Ball also left the yard off the green and white bats as senior right fielder Brett Burrell hit two home runs on the afternoon.
 
After two and a half innings of scoreless ball, Delta State would put five runs up in the bottom of the third with a rbi single from Jacob Hill. Two batters later, Dylan Coleman would hit his second home run of the season with a three-run blast to Left Center making it 4-0. Three batters later, Dylan Dendy would collect a rbi with a groundout scoring Andin Johnson to make it 5-0.
 
Logan Eldrige would get a solid start on the bump for DSU going 5.1 innings striking out three Lee batters earning his first win of the season.
 
Three innings later, Burrell would connect on his first of two home runs with a solo shot to left field extending the Statesmen lead to 6-0.
 
Lee would show a threat to tie or take the lead in the top of the eighth inning. With the tying run on second with two outs, Hill would force a ground out to finish the top of the eighth.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, Burrell would hit a towering two-run home run to left field to extend the Statesmen lead to 8-4.
In the top of the ninth, a lead off solo home run would make it 8-5 where Hill would shut the door giving the Statesmen their sixth straight win.
 
Delta State will hit the road Tuesday afternoon as they head across the Mississippi River to Monticello, Ark., to take on the Boll Weevils from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The first pitch for Tuesday is set for 5:00 p.m. (CDT).
