MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Delta State University Baseball team (8-3, 3-0 GSC) used a two run seventh inning to beat the No. 23 ranked Boll Weevils from the University of Arkansas at Monticello (8-2, 3-0 GAC) Tuesday afternoon at Union Bank Park in Monticello.
The Boll Weevils struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning on a wild pitch scoring their lone run of the evening. With one out and runners on second and third,
Logan Cromer would come in relief for
Aidan McCrady to leave those runners stranded.
Cromer threw 4.2 innings to get his third win of the season, while
Josh Hill would collect his fifth save of the year.
In the top of the seventh with one out, junior first baseman
Bo Rock would hit his first home run as a Statesmen with a solo shot over the tall right center field fence to even the game up at 1-1.
On two at-bats after a
Brendan McCauley walk,
Drew Capobianco would give the Statesmen the lead with a rbi double to right center field to make it 2-1.
Finishing the game in style, senior
Josh Hill would grab career save 16 in style with three strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to give DSU a 2-1 win.
The Statesmen return to Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field this weekend for a three-game series with the Bulldogs from Union University. Game one will be at 4:00 p.m., (CDT) Friday afternoon.
