CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball team (6-2, 2-0 GSC) split their double header Monday afternoon against the University of Arkansas at Monticello at University Field.
 
The Lady Statesmen won the opening game 1-0, before falling in game two 4-1.
 
GAME ONE
The Lady Statesmen got a solid start from senior 
Emma Enderud and a home run from 
Kyleigh Wheaton leading to a 1-0 win in the opening game of the double header.
 
Enderud and freshman Averi Bridgeman would combine to give up only two hits while pitching a shutout. Enderud struck out five Cotton Blossom hitters in 4.1 innings pitched, while Bridgeman would earn the win.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Wheaton would lead off the inning with a blast over the center field fence to give the Lady Statesmen a 1-0 lead.
 
With the tying run on second and the leading runner on first, Bridgeman would get a strikeout to conclude the game with a 1-0 win.
 
GAME TWO
The Lady Statesmen grabbed an early lead in game two as a two out rally led to 
Emma Collier scoring on a wild pitch to give DSU an early 1-0 lead. Collier went 2-3 in game two of the double header.
 
The Lady Statesmen got six strikeouts from junior pitcher 
Ellie Cox in her third start this season. The Crockett's Bluff, Ark., native went three innings in the start.
Arkansas Monticello would tie the game up in the third before scoring one run in the fifth and adding insurance runs in the top of the seventh, taking game two 4-1.
 
The Lady Statesmen are back at home for a three-game series this Friday, and Saturday against the Lady Bulldogs from Union University. Friday will feature a double header starting at 2:00 p.m., (CDT) at University Field.
