Lady Statesmen Look to Make Playoff Push Against Lee and TNU

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball Team (12-13, 8-11 GSC) look to make a push for a Truist GSC Conference Championship Tournament berth this weekend as they welcome the Lady Flames from Lee University and the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University to Lloyd Clark Court at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
 
The Lady Statesmen will face off against Lee this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. (CDT). Following that, Trevecca Nazarene will come to town for Senior Day Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m., tip-off.
 
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sport Network and on the FloCollege network.
 
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
  • The Lady Statesmen enter this weekend's final two regular season home games with a 12-13 overall record and an 8-11 record in GSC play. Last weekend, the green and white fell on the road to Valdosta State 69-64 and West Florida 69-56.
  • Senior Forward Grace Watson led the charge in the front court against the Lady Blazers. The Hazel Green native secured her seventh double-double of the season scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds adding two blocked shots while shooting 6-14 from the field.
  • Against West Florida on Saturday, junior Olivia Allen scored 20 points shooting 7-12 from the field. The trio of Allen, Wakiryah Daniels and Madi Kate Vuncannon produced on the offensive end against the Argonauts. Daniels had 12 points, five rebounds and two steals. While Vuncannon scored nine points and dished out an assist.  
Scouting the Lady Flames
  • The Lady Flames enter this weekend receiving votes in the national polls and are on a six-game winning streak with a 20-4 overall record and a 14-4 record in GSC play.
  • The duo of Mallory Hampton and Haylee Johnson leads the Lee backcourt. Johnson leads the GSC averaging 5.6 assists per game. While Hampton is one of the top scorers in the conference averaging 17 points per game.
  • Last time out, Lee defeated travel partner Trevecca 59-43. Senior forward Anna Muhonen led Lee with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Scouting the Trojans
  • Trevecca Nazarene enters this weekend's trip to the Magnolia State with a 7-17 overall record and a 4-14 record in GSC play. The Trojans have only won one of their last eight games.
  • Senior guard Tatum Shaw leads the way for the Trojan back court as she averages 11 points per game. The Lady Statesmen held her to five points and defended her well on the perimeter forcing Shaw to shoot 1-6 from beyond the arch.
  • Along with Shaw is sophomore guard Amaya Thomas. Thomas is the other Trojan averaging double digits in the scoring column. The Nashville native led all scorers last time out against the Lady Statesmen with 15 points as she shot 6-7 from the field.
