CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (8-3, 3-1 GSC) fell to the Lady Bulldogs from Union University (2-10, 2-3 GSC) 11-5 Sunday afternoon at University Field.
The Lady Statesmen had a two RBI day from
Kyleigh Wheaton.
Emma Enderud struck out four Lady Bulldogs in two innings pitched
Delta State trailed 1-0 early before back-to-back RBI doubles from
Calli McConnell and
Rylee Leonard would give the green and white a 2-1 lead.
Union would score 10 unanswered runs from the third to the seventh inning.
The Lady Statesmen comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh as Wheaton would take a 1-1 pitch into the left centerfield gap scoring two runs to make it 11-4. Wheaton would score two batters later, as Cataldo would reach on an error to make it 11-5.
Delta State will be on the road next weekend as they head to Pensacola, Fla., to take on the Argonauts from the University of West Florida on Friday and Saturday.
