JACKSON, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Tennis Team (2-4, 0-1 GSC) knocked off division I opponent in Jackson State University 4-3 Friday afternoon on the JSU Tennis Courts in Jackson.
The Statesmen took advantage in singles action, winning four of six matches with three going to the third set.
In No.1 Singles,
Hector Ortiz defeated JSU's Alejandro Pinella (1-6, 6-2, 7-5). The no. 3 singles match ended in exciting tie break fashion as
Harry Browning ended up on top (7-5, 7-6).
Jacob Lubbe and
Tom Rance would clinch the win for the Statesmen in the No. 4 and No. 5 Singles matchup. Lubbe won in the No. 4 match (3-6, 6-3, 6-0), while Rance won (6-4, 1-6, 5-0).
The Statesmen return to the Cleveland Country Club on Tuesday Afternoon as they host the Muleriders from Southern Arkansas University. Tuesday's match will start at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
