Statesmen Look to Keep Momentum with Two-Game Home Stretch against UAH and West Alabama

CLEVELAND, Miss, - The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (11-10, 7-8 GSC) look to continue their five-game winning streak as they host the Chargers from the University of Alabama at Huntsville and the Tigers from the University of West Alabama   

The Statesmen will face Alabama Huntsville tonight at 7:30 p.m. (CDT) on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum. Following that, DSU will face West Alabama Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. (CDT) 

The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network and on the FloCollege network. 

Scouting the Statesmen 

  • Delta State enters this weekend with an 11-10 overall record and a 7-8 record in GSC play. Delta State went 2-0 in Alabama last weekend defeating Auburn Montgomery Thursday night 93-84 then followed it up with a 90-85 win in Montevallo. 

  • Senior point guard Chris Terrell led the way on the offensive end in the 90-85 win at Montevallo with 20 points, four assists and three steals. Terrell currently leads the nation with 79 steals. 

  • Horace had a highlighted weekend for the Statesmen last week. The Mobile, Ala., native averaged 20.5 points per game in the two wins over Montevallo and AUM. Against Montevallo, Horace had a team high five steals in the win as the Statesmen forced 19 UM turnovers. 

Scouting the Chargers 

  • Alabama Huntsville is entering this weekend ranked fourth in the nation with a 20-1 overall record and are 15-0 record in the GSC. Alabama Huntsville enters this weekend on a 20-game win streak dating back to early November  

  • UAH are coming into this contest as one of the top offensive teams in the GSC this season, as the Chargers are ranked first in points per game (88.4) and team field goal percentage of (51.6). 

  • The Chargers are led by Lipscomb transfer Tommy Murr. Murr leads all scorers averaging 19.1 points per game along with 5.8 assists per game. 

Scouting West Alabama 

  • West Alabama comes in with a 10-11 record overall and 6-9 in the conference. Last time out, the Tigers fell at home to the Flames from Lee University 69-65 last Saturday in Livingston.  

  • The Tigers are led by senior guard Thaddeus Williams. The Bessemer, Ala., native leads all Tiger scorers, averaging 14.8 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game. Last time against DSU, the Statesmen held Williams to nine points and forced him to turn it over four times. 

  • In Saturday's loss to Lee, Jaylen Lemons led all scorers with 22 points shooting 4-9 from beyond the arch.  Lemons also had six rebounds in the contest.
