Statesmen Offense Explodes in 11-3 Home Opening Win

Dylan Coleman a Home Run from the cycle in the win

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (2-3, 0-0 GSC) had their offense clicking on all cylinders plus a solid outing from Senior righty Drake Fontenot in their 11-3 win against the Badgers from Spring Hill College (1-4, 0-0 SIAC).

After two scoreless innings, Spring Hill scored their lone three runs in the top of the third inning. Delta State responded right away with back-to-back rbis from Wes Warnock and a bases clearing two-run triple by Dylan Coleman to tie it back up at 3-3. Two batters later, Dylan Dendy would rip a single up the middle to score Coleman to give Delta State a 4-3 lead.

Two innings later, Dendy would extend the lead for the Statesmen as he would drive in two more runs with a rbi single to extend the green and white lead to 6-3.

Next inning Coleman would add another rbi to his repertoire with a single through the left side to score Jacob Hill making it 7-3.

The Statesmen bats showcased plate discipline in the bottom of the eighth as four walks, one bringing in a run along with three more runs off of Wild Pitches would give DSU four insurance runs to make it 11-3.

In the top of the ninth, Ryan Herbison would strike out two batters to seal the deal with an 11-3 win.

On the Mound
Fontenot threw seven innings, striking out seven Spring Hill batters to earn his first win of the season. Logan Cromer would not allow a hit in his one inning of relief striking out one Badger. Herbison shut the door in the ninth with two strikeouts.

From the Batter's Box
The Statesmen would have two three-hit and three rbi performances from Coleman and Dendy. Coleman was a long ball away from hitting for the cycle. The top of the order shined for the green and white going 9-12 with two doubles, two stolen bases, and four runs driven in.
