Lady Statesmen Slug their way to a 2-0 Start In Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – The Delta State University Softball Team went 2-0 today in their first day at the Charger Chillout in Sand Mountain Park. The Lady Statesmen started Saturday morning off with a 9-5 win over the Railsplitters from Lincoln Memorial University. The Lady Statesmen would follow the season opening win with a 5-1 win against the Mountain Lions from Young Harris College.
 
Game One
Delta State would add three runs in the top of the second and the top of the fifth to run away from Lincoln Memorial in the first game of the day. Emma Collier would go a perfect 3-3 on the plate with two RBI doubles in both innings DSU scored three runs.
 
Delta State would answer an early two-run deficit with a three-run top of the second from a rbi double by Emma Collier and a two-run single by Laney Daigrepont giving Delta State a 3-2 lead.
 
In the top of the third, Avery Ragsdale would drive in Calli McConnell, who reached on a single with a sacrifice fly to extend the DSU lead to 4-2.
 
After LMU added a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-3, Delta State would pour in another three-run inning starting with back-to-back rbi doubles from Ragsdale and Collier to make it 6-3. Two batters later, Mattie Grandberry would collect an RBI with a groundout that scored Collier to make it 7-3.
 
In the top of the seventh, after LMU cut the DSU lead in half, Delta State would grab two insurance runs to make it a 9-5 contest.
 
Emma Enderud would get the win in the circle against LMU. The southpaw threw three and a third innings striking out two Railsplitters to earn the win.
 
Game Two
 The Lady Statesmen had solid outings from three pitchers in the circle to get a 5-1 win over the Mountain Lions in the afternoon cap.
 
In the batter's box, Ragsdale added three-doubles as she went 3-3 at the dish, McConnell had a two RBIs as she went 2-3.
 
Delta State struck first in game two as a McConnell single would drive in Kyleigh Wheaton giving the green and white a 1-0 lead.
 
Young Harris would answer with a run in the top of the second, leading to a two-run bottom of the third starting with a McConnell rbi double to left field. After an Abbi Cataldo walk to load the bases, freshman Averi Bridgman would get her first collegiate rbi with a groundout to second driving in Ragsdale making it 3-1.
 
Delta State would pour in some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with an rbi infield single from Bailey Way, and another double from Ragsdale to make it 5-1.
 
In the top of the seventh, Bridgman would grab her first career save in the circle finishing her two-innings with two strikeouts and forcing three groundouts.
 
The Lady Statesmen look to add on to their 2-0 start tomorrow with two games against Miles College at 11 a.m., and Kentucky Wesleyan College at 1:30 p.m., at the Charger Chillout
