Statesmen Fall in Twibill at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (13-6, 7-2 GSC) lost their first three-game series this season to the Argonauts (9-7, 6-3 GSC) Saturday afternoon in Pensacola.
 
The Argonauts won both games of the double header by scores of 2-0 and 6-2.
 
On the mound Delta State had a solid start from Dylan Farley in game one as he threw 6.1 innings pitched and struck out six Argonaut batters.
 
GAME ONE
Delta State and West Florida showcased solid pitching in game one of the double header with UWF coming out on top 2-0.
 
Brendan McCauley reached base on two of his three plate appearances with a base hit and a walk.
 
Christian Clayson had a solid outing in relief going 1.2 innings pitched striking out three West Florida batters and only allowing one hit.
 
West Florida would score on two rbi doubles in the fifth and the seventh innings to hold on to a 2-0 win.
 
GAME TWO
The Argonauts took an early 5-0 lead with a five run second inning. Delta State would respond in the fourth with two of their own to cut the UWF lead to 5-2.
 
In the top of the fourth after a Wes Warnock single and McCauley walk, Brett Burrell would rip a double to right center field scoring Warnock.
 
Two batters later, Bo Rock would bring home McCauley on a rbi groundout to make it 5-2.
 
West Florida would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-2.
 
The Statesmen are back in action this Tuesday in Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field as they will host the Reddies from Henderson State University. The first pitch Tuesday afternoon is set for 3:00 p.m. (CDT).
