Statesmen Connect From Three in 93-77 Win At MC

CLINTON, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (16-12, 12-10 GSC) hit 10 three pointers in the first half in their 93-77 win against the Choctaws from Mississippi College (8-20, 4-18 GSC) Saturday afternoon in the A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton.
 
The Statesmen had their whole starting five scoring double digits as Chris Terrell led all scorers with 22 points with five assists and two steals. Keithean Brooks recorded his first double-double of the season scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Bryce Clayton added a career-high 17 points shooting 5-8 from beyond the arch in his first career start.
 
 Delta State exploded out the gate led by Je'Marion Westbrook, scoring 11 points as a part of a DSU 15-4 run to start the game. Westbrook went 3-3 from beyond the arch during the run.
 
The green and white continued to let it fly from beyond the arch in the first arch shooting 10-19 from beyond the arch for the first half.
 
At the 4:05 mark in the first half, Terrell would connect from beyond the arch giving Delta State their biggest lead of the first half at 37-17. Brooks would add on 14 points in the first half as the Statesmen shot 50% from the field as they took a 44-28 lead at the halftime break.
 
In the second half, Delta State would speed the game up staying ahead by a minimum of 16 or more points. Terrell would add 16 second half points for the green and white.
 
With 6:33 minutes remaining, Bryce Clayton would connect with his fifth three pointer giving Delta State their biggest lead of the game at 84-56.
 
With the win this afternoon, Delta State will clinch the five seed in the TRUIST GSC Championship Tournament starting this upcoming Tuesday.
The Statesmen will travel to Nashville, Tenn., this upcoming Tuesday to face the four seeded Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University.  The tipoff time is to be determined.
