Statesmen Set for Mid-Week Clash with Boll Weevils

CLEVELAND, Miss.- The Delta State University Baseball Team (16-5, 10-2 GSC) will hit the road this afternoon to face off against the Boll Weevils from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The first pitch is set for 5:00 p.m., (CDT) at Union Bank Park.
 
This will mark the second match up between the two teams as Delta State defeated UAM 2-1 in mid-February.
 
Follow along this afternoon's contest as Braden Treaster will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network. Arkansas Monticello will provide the live stats and the live stream.
 
Scouting The Statesmen
  • Delta State will enter this week with a 16-5 overall record and a 10-2 record in GSC play after completing a three-game sweep against Christian Brothers this past weekend in Memphis.
  • At the plate the Statesmen have got solid production from the middle of the order as senior right fielder Brett Burrell leads all hitters with a .462 batting average and 25 runs driven in so far this season. Burrell and fellow senior Dylan Coleman drove in 10 runs in last weekends series against CBU. Coleman hit three home runs in Saturday's 14-2 win over the Buccaneers.
  • In mid-week contests, the Statesmen have got solid production out of freshman right-hander Aidan McCrady. The Eads, Tenn., native started the last mid-week contest for the green and white as he threw 4.0 innings pitched and struck out five batters in Delta State's 11-0 win against Ouachita Baptist two weeks ago.
Scouting the Boll Weevils
  • Arkansas Monticello holds a 13-8 overall record and a 8-4 record in the Great American Conference as they enter today's match up 9-1 at home with their only loss to Delta State in mid-February. Last time out, the Boll Weevils swept the Wonder Boys from Arkansas Tech in last weekend's three-game series where UAM scored double digits in every game.
  • At the plate, senior catcher Chaz Poppy leads all batters with a .440 batting average with 27 rbis and four home runs this season. Against Arkansas Tech, Poppy went 4-12 with two home runs and six rbis in the three-game series.
  • Last time the Statesmen went to Monticello, they saw junior south paw Vincent Segovia. Segovia threw three innings and struck out four batters getting no result in the Statesmen's 2-1 win.
