CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (19-7, 12-3 GSC) lost 14-4 to the Wonder Boys from Arkansas Tech University (11-14, 8-6 GAC) Tuesday afternoon at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.
Despite falling behind 10-0 early, the Statesmen rallied back with 11 total hits including two hits from
Brendan McCauley,
Brett Burrell and
Cole Thompson. Thompson would connect on his second home run of the season.
Delta State would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth as back-to-back hits from
Wes Warnock and McCauley would lead to a rbi single from Burrell to make it 11-1.
In the next inning, Delta State would continue to try to rally as a lead off double from
Preston Soper would lead to at
Matthew Martinolich rbi single to make it 11-2. After a Thompson walk,
Dylan Dendy would hit a rbi sac fly to center to make it 11-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, Thompson led off the inning with a solo home run to left center field to make it 14-4. The Wonder Boys would prevent a runner to get across home in the bottom of the eighth to stay ahead 14-4.
The Statesmen will start a four-game road trip starting with a three-game GSC series in Livingston, Ala., this weekend against the Tigers from the University of West Alabama on Friday and Saturday.
