LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Delta State University Softball Team (10-13, 5-10 GSC) had a late rally fall short in a 9-8 loss to the Tigers from the University of West Alabama (17-12, 8-8 GSC) Friday afternoon in the UWA Softball Complex.
At the plate, senior left fielder
Abbi Cataldo had a three-hit afternoon, going 3-4 with two runs driven in.
Emma Collier drove in four runs going 2-4 with a double and a home run.
After giving up an early run in the bottom of the first, Delta State would respond with a two-run home run from Collier to give Delta State a 2-1 lead in the top of the second.
In the next inning, Cataldo would get rbi number one on the afternoon with a rbi single down the right field line to make it 3-1.
After the Tigers tied the game up at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Delta State would respond with a sacrifice fly from
Bailey Way give the Lady Statesmen a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth.
UWA would score six runs in the bottom of the sixth leading to a 9-5 lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Lady Statesmen would score four runs on three-straight at-bats starting with a rbi single from Cataldo to make it 9-5. Way would follow up Cataldo's rbi single with a rbi fielder's choice to make it 9-6. Collier would add two more runs with a two-run double to left field making it 9-8.
Delta State and UWA will face off tomorrow afternoon with a double header to finish the three-game series starting at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
