LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Delta State University Softball Team (10-15, 5-12 GSC) fell in two one-run games against the Tigers from the University of West Alabama (19-12, 10-8 GSC) Saturday afternoon in the UWA Softball Complex in Livingston.
The Tigers won game one 7-6 and game two 3-2.
GAME ONE
The Lady Statesmen got solid production from the top of the order as the 1 through 3 hitters went 3-9 with two runs driven in.
DSU took the lead in the top of the first with a run scoring on an error to make it 1-0.
West Alabama would tie it up in the bottom of the first at 1-1 before three home runs would give the Tigers a 7-1 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Delta State would rally to make it a one run game with a leadoff double from
Bailey Way. Way would score the first run as
Mattie Granberry would reach on an error cutting UWA's lead to 7-2.
Three batters later, Delta State would score on wild pitch to make it 7-3. On the next at-bat, Wheaton would hit a rbi single up the middle to make it 7-4. Averi Ragsdale followed Wheaton's single up with a rbi groundout to make it 7-5.
Emma Collier would reach on an error that scored a run on the next at-bat to make it 7-6.
The Tigers would get out of the jam to hold on to a 7-6 win.
GAME TWO
Delta State got production from the middle of the order in game two as the three, four and five hitters went 3-9 with two runs driven in.
Down 1-0 in the top of the fifth,
Emma Collier would tie the game up with her third home run of the week with a solo shot to left field to make it 1-1.
In the top of the sixth,
Abbi Cataldo would give Delta State a 2-1 lead on a two-out rbi single to left field.
West Alabama would tie the game up in the sixth before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-2.
Delta State will hit the road Tuesday afternoon to take on the nationally ranked Lady Bisons from Harding University. The first pitch for Tuesday's double header is set for 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
