MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (22-8, 15-3 GSC) fell behind early in an 8-3 loss to the Muleriders from Southern Arkansas (19-11, 12-6 GAC) Tuesday afternoon at Walker Stadium in Magnolia.
The Statesmen had 11 hits on the afternoon including five players with two-hit performances.
Despite falling behind 7-0, The Statesmen attempted to rally back into the game with a run in the top of the eighth with singles from
Wes Warnock,
Brett Burrell and a rbi single from
Bo Rock to make it 7-1.
After a Mulerider run in the bottom of the eighth, Delta State would start the top of the ninth with back-to-back doubles from
Dylan Dendy and
Dylan Coleman leading to a sacrifice fly from
Peyton Badon making it 8-2.
Warnock would add his second hit of the contest with a two-out rbi single down the left field line to make it 8-3.
Warnock would be left on base in the top of the ninth as Southern Arkansas would shut the door with a 8-3 win.
Delta State will return to Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field this weekend for a three-game conference series against the Chargers from the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Game one will start Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. (CDT).
