CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State University Baseball's Senior right-handed pitcher
Logan Eldridge tossed his second consecutive complete game as the Statesmen (25-8, 18-3 GSC) completed a three-game sweep with a 7-1 win over the University of Alabama at Huntsville (14-18, 7-14 GSC) Sunday afternoon at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.
Eldridge pitched nine innings while striking out eight Chargers and walked after giving up a lead off home run to start the game.
The top of the order for Delta State stayed hot led by
Wes Warnock, who went 3-4 with a double and a stolen base.
UAH struck first in the afternoon with a lead off home run to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Statesmen would respond right away with a four-run bottom of the first with a two-run double from
Tyler Janos to give the green and white a 2-1 lead. On the next at-bat,
Matthew Martinolich would add a two-run single extending the Statesmen lead to 4-1.
In the next inning, Delta State would add on to the lead with a rbi single from
Brett Burrell to make it 5-1.
Two innings later,
Dylan Coleman would continue his hot weekend with a rbi single to center field to extend the lead to 6-1. Coleman finished the weekend going 7-14 with six RBIs and three home runs.
Burrell would add his second rbi of the day with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to give the green and white a 7-1 lead into the final frame where Eldridge struck out two batters to make it a complete game performance.
The Statesmen hit the road Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., to take on the Reddies from Henderson State University. Tuesday's first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. (CDT).
