MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Delta State University Softball Team (8-7, 4-5 GSC) fell in their series opener against the Lady Bucs from Christian Brothers University (7-12, 1-9 GSC) 3-1 Friday afternoon at Bland Field.
At the plate, the Lady Statesmen had two multi-hit games from
Bailey Way and
Calli McConnell as they both went 2-3 at the plate.
In the circle,
Emma Enderud nearly went the distance throwing 5.2 innings pitched and striking out four Lady Bucs.
Delta State would grab the lead in the top of the third with a rbi double off the bat from
Kyleigh Wheaton that scored Way to give the green and white a 1-0 lead.
CBU would answer in the sixth inning with three runs to grab a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Lady Statesmen would have the tying run at first after Way and McConnell would each get their second base hit of the afternoon. But the Lady Bucs would get out of the jam to hold on to a 3-1 win.
The two teams will play in a double header tomorrow at Bland Field starting at 12 p.m. (CDT).
