MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Delta State University Softball Team (9-8, 5-6 GSC) split their doubleheader with the Lady Bucs from Christian Brothers University (8-13, 2-10 GSC) Saturday afternoon at Bland Field.
 
The Lady Statesmen won game one 4-2 and fell in the rubber match 8-2.
 
GAME ONE
Delta State took an early 3-0 lead, scoring a run in the first and two in the second. In the circle, 
Ellie Cox earned the win throwing four innings and forcing eight groundouts.
 
The green and white took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a double steal as 
Kyleigh Wheaton stole second and 
Mary Teague stole home on the throw to second.
 
In the next inning, Delta State would extend their lead to 3-0 starting with a rbi single from 
Mattie Granberry. Two batters later, Teague would drive in Granberry to make it 3-0.
 
After CBU scored a run in the bottom of the second, Delta State would respond as 
Bailey Way would extend the Lady Statesmen lead to 4-1 on a sacrifice fly.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, 
Averi Bridgman would enter in to get her second save of the season as the green and white would hold on to a 4-2 win.
 
GAME TWO
The Lady Statesmen grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run double from 
Abbi Cataldo.  
 
In the circle, 
Emma Enderud would throw 3.2 innings striking out three Lady Bucs in the starting effort.
 
A six-run fifth inning would help boost CBU to an 8-2 win to clinch the series against DSU.
 
The Lady Statesmen return to University Field next weekend for a three-game series with the Lady Blazers from Valdosta State University. That series will kick off Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. (CDT).
