CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (29-12, 21-6 GSC) clinched another series win with a double header split against the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene (16-24, 12-15 GSC) Saturday afternoon in Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.
Delta State would get another complete game from southpaw
Dylan Farley. The Netherlands native struck out 11 Trojans as he threw nine innings to get his sixth win of the season.
GAME ONE
The Statesmen would fall behind early but never panicked behind a stellar outing from Farley to win 5-2.
The middle of the order shined as
Brett Burrell,
Dylan Coleman, and
Dylan Dendy went 6-14 with three runs driven in for the win.
After falling behind 2-0, Burrell would cut the lead in half with a rbi single in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1.
Delta State would regain the lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run single from Dendy, giving Delta State a 3-2 lead.
Matthew Martinolich would add another run in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
Cole Thompson would drive the fifth run of the game in with a rbi single in the bottom of the seventh to make it 5-2.
Like Fontenot in game one, Farley would get stronger as the game went on as he allowed only one base runner in the final three innings.
GAME TWO.
Delta State would have a late rally come up short in a 4-1 loss to TNU in game two. Senior right hander
Logan Eldridge threw 5.2 innings, striking out six Trojans and only gave up one earned run.
The Statesmen would have the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh down 4-0 before
Wes Warnock would drive in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
The Trojans would hold on not allowing another run in the bottom of the seventh to get a double header split.
The Statesmen will be back in action next Friday for their Senior Weekend as they host the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery. The first pitch for Friday afternoon is set for 5:00 p.m. (CDT).
