CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (11-26, 5-20 GSC) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University (25-13, 14-13 GSC) this afternoon at University Field.
The Lady Statesmen had four strikeouts in the circle from senior southpaw
Emma Enderud as she went 4.1 innings pitched on senior day.
The Trojans scored first in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead before the Lady Statesmen would respond on back-to-back hits from
Mattie Granberry and
Bailey Way in the bottom of the third.
Granberry would lead off the bottom of the third with a double to left center. On the next at-bat, Way would reach on a bunt single that would score Granberry on an errant throw from the Trojan catcher to make it 1-1.
The Trojans would score a run in the fourth and four in the sixth on two home runs to take a 6-1 lead and hold on to the win.
The Lady Statesmen hit the road Monday afternoon to Russellville, Ark., to take on the Golden Suns from Arkansas Tech University. Monday's double header is set to start at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
