RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Delta State University Softball Team (12-27, 5-20 GSC) split a mid-week double header on the road with the Golden Suns from Arkansas Tech University (26-22, 15-12 GAC) this afternoon at Chartwell's Complex in Russellville.
The Lady Statesmen took game one with a come from behind 3-1 win. Arkansas Tech won a back-and-forth game two 5-2.
GAME ONE
Delta State got a stellar outing from
Emma Enderud and a three-hit performance from
Kyleigh Wheaton to win 3-1. Enderud tossed a complete game and struck out five Golden Sun hitters to earn win number two on the season.
Down 1-0 going into the top of the seventh, the Lady Statesmen rallied back as Wheaton would take a 2-2 pitch the other way to right center, giving the green and white a 2-1 lead.
On the next at-bat,
Mary Teague would drive in the third run with a rbi ground out to the pitcher.
With the tying run at first and the winning run at the plate, Enderud forced back-to-back pop ups to get her third complete game of the season.
GAME TWO
The Lady Statesmen would get two hits from
Bailey Way in a back-and-forth 5-2 loss to Arkansas Tech.
After falling behind 2-0 and going into the third, Delta State would tie the game up with back-to-back RBI singles from
Calli McConnell and
Abbi Cataldo to tie the game up at 2-2.
The Golden Suns would score a run in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead and take game two 5-2.
The Lady Statesmen come back to University Field for a three-game series with the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery Thursday and Friday. Thursday will feature a double header that will start at 11:00 a.m. (CDT).
