Lady Statesmen Drop Double Header against no. 6 AUM

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (12-29, 5-22 GSC) lost both games of their double header against the Warhawks form Auburn University at Montgomery (31-9, 22-7 GSC) this afternoon at University Field.
 
The Lady Statesmen and the Warhawks battled to extra innings in game one where AUM won 5-1 in nine innings. AUM took game two 13-4 in five innings.
 
Delta State had a solid outing in game one in the circle from Emma Enderud. The Oxford, Kansas tossed eight innings and struck out a season high seven Warhawk batters.
 
GAME ONE
Delta State and Auburn Montgomery battled in a pitchers duel where the Warhawks ended up on top 5-1 in extra innings. Avery Ragsdale went 1-3 at the plate in game one, driving home the lone run for the green and white.
 
The Lady Statesmen took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a rbi double to left center field from Ragsdale.
 
The Warhawks would score five unanswered with a run in the sixth to tie the game 1-1.
 
Both teams would go to extra innings where AUM would drive in four runs to hold on to a 5-1 win.
 
GAME TWO
The Lady Statesmen would get a three RBI game from senior infielder Emma Collier in game two.
 
The Golconda, Illinois native went 2-3 with a stolen base on the afternoon.
 
The Lady Statesmen would get on the board in the bottom of the of the fourth starting with a two-run single up the middle. Two batters later, Mattie Granberry would drive in a run with a rbi groundout.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Emma Collier would attempt to start a two out rally to keep the game alive with a rbi single up the middle. But the rally would fall short as the Warhawks would take game two by a 13-4 final score.
 
The two teams will play the final game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (CDT), at University Field.
