CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (12-30, 5-23 GSC) fell in a tight contest against the NFCA no.6 ranked Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery (32-9, 23-7 GSC) 9-7 this afternoon at University Field.
The Lady Statesmen had two players with two RBIs as
Mary Teague and
Emma Collier each drove in two runs.
The Warhawks scored three runs in the top of the first before the Lady Statesmen answered in the bottom of the first with a run on a double steal to make it 3-1.
After the Warhawks extended the lead to 4-1,
Emma Collier would drive in two runs with a single up the middle to make it 4-3.
Down 6-3, the Lady Statesmen would score four unanswered runs with back-to-back rbis from Teague and
Calli McConnell in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-5. In the next inning, The Lady Statesmen took a 7-6 lead on a rbi single from
Bailey Way followed by a sacrifice fly from Teague in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth and seventh, AUM scored three unanswered runs to take a 9-7 win.
The Lady Statesmen will hit the road next Tuesday afternoon as they will take on the Reddies of Henderson State. Tuesday's double header starts at 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
