Hill Ties Program Record in Statesmen Double Header Sweep

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (31-13, 23-7 GSC) out slugged the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery (12-32, 9-21 GSC) this afternoon in Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.

The Statesmen used the long ball along with senior right hander Josh Hill's record tying 10th save of the season in a 6-3 game one win and followed it up with 10-7 win in game two.

GAME ONE
The Statesmen had two key home runs and a stellar pitching performance from Dylan Farley and Josh Hill to take game one of the double header 6-3.

After two scoreless innings, Preston Soper would break the ice with his second home run in two consecutive at-bats this weekend with a two-run blast to right field to make it 2-0.

The Warhawks would cut their deficit in half before Brett Burrell hits a long home run over the left field fence to give DSU a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the eighth, AUM would have the bases loaded as Hill would enter and force an inning ending fielder's choice to keep the score 3-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, Delta State add three insurance runs starting with a rbi double from Andin Johnson, a rbi single from Soper, and a bases loaded walk to make it 6-1.

Two Warhawk runs in the top of the ninth would not be enough as Hill would secure the save leading to a 6-3 win.

GAME TWO
Delta State would get the last blow in a game that had three ties and three lead changes in a 10-7 game two win to secure the series win.

After AUM would score a run on back-to-back hits to start the game, Delta State would respond to tie the game up at 1-1 with a rbi single from Tyler Janos in the bottom of the second.

Both teams would exchange punches as Delta State would respond to AUM's run in the top of the third with a two-run single from Johnson to give the Statesmen their first lead of the game at 3-2.

AUM would re-gain the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth with three runs on a sacrifice fly and a two-run double before Delta State would respond again with a two-run bottom of the fourth on back-to-back rbi singles from Brett Burrell and Dylan Coleman to make it 5-5.

In the bottom of the fifth, Delta State would deliver the knockout punch with five runs on a bases loaded walk from Brendan McCauley and a grand slam from Coleman to make it 10-5.

AUM added two runs in the sixth inning, but Tate Duncan would get his first save of the season, shutting down the Warhawks in the top of the seventh to secure the series win.

The Statesmen will hit the road this upcoming Tuesday as they travel to Searcy, Ark., to take on the Bisons from Harding University. Tuesday afternoon's first pitch is set to start at 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
